Islip, YouSlip, We all Slip... for Honor Society - August 23,2008
August 23 Lauren and I had tickets to see John Mayer in Hartford. But one day I was looking at HS's myspace and was like "They added a date..." So we decided to try and sell the Mayer tickets (which we were successful at the last minute in doing) and head to Long Island (Islip, NY) to see the gentlemen.
Connecticut and Long Island are kind of parallel to each other. But there is no bridge connecting them. There is a ferry but we would have had to take the car with us and it would have gotten pretty expensive. So basically we drove down the coast of Connecticut, into New York and then up parallel through Long Island, kind of sort of back tracking. I kind of wanted to build a bridge. Or invent a flying car. You know, whatever could get us there fastest.
We got there early and decided to try and see the beach. Except, this is Long Island, everything was private. So we didn't find much of anything... saw some boats though.
Once we parked, we spotted all the guys on their cell phones. It almost looked like they were all talking to each other. Pretty funny. We paid our $10 donation/admission (It was a benefit for Lupus) and found out that Honor Society wouldn't be going on until 10 pm. As we listened to the other bands and they said their names, we could tell that this concert was running WAY behind schedule.
The guys took the stage about 10:30 and ended their set around 11:30. We thought they might get shut down because of noise ordinances or whatever it is. Here in CT, I think you can't play past 11. But despite the wait, a great show was performed, as always.
We quickly said goodbye to Andrew and made our parallel backtracking trek home.
The setlist for the evening was:
This Bed Is An Ocean
Kiss Me Like You Mean It
Why Didnt I
No Win Situation
Two Rebels
Nobody Has To Know
See U In The Dark

Katie's First Honor Society Show - July 5, 2008
I'm not going to lie. I had no idea who Honor Society was when Lauren asked me to go see them. I had checked out their myspace briefly, but my computer has no sound so I had no idea what I was in for. I really only agreed because I can't turn down a trip to the city and because I really wanted to find some more of those "Statues on Parade" that were promoting the All Star Game at Yankee Stadium.
I listened to their EP on Lauren's iPod on the way to the show and it wasn't half bad. But I still wasn't sure if I was even going to count it as a concert - if I did, it would be my 100th show and that was a, well, honor... not for just anyone.
About halfway through the set, I fell in love. This band seemed to be everything I was looking for in that moment. I'm not sure if I even told Lauren "I love them" after the show, but if I didn't say it out loud, I certainly was thinking it.
Usually I am really good about keeping a setlist (because I am a scrapbooker and need to include them in my layouts), but since I went into this show thinking I was just going to erase it from memory after it was over, I was totally unprepared. They played nearly an hour set though - so I would imagine it was most, if not all, of their songs. Look for setlists from here on out though, especially now since I know the names of most of the songs! ha.
Afterwards, we hung around a bit to try and say hi to the guys. Unfortunately, when it comes to shows in the city we are forced to plan the evening around the trains back home. While we could have taken a train an hour later - it would have put us back in CT really late (or really early, depending on how you look at it) and we decided we just weren't up for that. But before we left we decided that we would absolutely be going to the show in CT the next week!
And with that... our journey officially began. And my first Honor Society show became my 100th concert ever.
Check out some pictures under the cut.
